Make a tournament pageThree ways to pick teams
- Random
- Leave out the numbers and everyone is shuffled. Good for a class, a quiz night or a casual game where nobody wants to be picked last.
- Balanced by skill
- Rate each player, say 1 to 5. The strongest are spread across the teams first, like a schoolyard draft, then players are swapped until the totals are close.
- With your own rules
- Keep a couple or a carpool on one team, and put the two best players, or two siblings who argue, on different teams.
Teams ready? Put them in a bracket for a knockout, or make a round robin schedule so every team plays every other. Four teams? The 4 team bracket prints on one page.
Questions
How does the random team generator work?
Paste the names, one per line, and choose how many teams or how many people per team. Press Make teams and everyone is shuffled into teams whose sizes differ by at most one. Press Shuffle again for a new draw.
How do I make balanced teams?
Add a skill number after each name, such as “Ana 4” (any scale you like, higher is stronger), and leave Balance teams by skill on. The strongest players are spread out first, then pairs of players are swapped between teams until the totals are as close as they get. Each team’s total is shown so everyone can see it’s fair.
Can I keep friends together or rivals apart?
Yes. Under Keep people together or apart, list a group per line. People kept together always land on the same team; people kept apart each go to a different team. If the rules can’t all be met, it says which ones clash.
What if the names don’t divide evenly?
Some teams get one more person. With 10 people in 3 teams you get teams of 4, 3 and 3; with 10 people in teams of 4, you get the same. Choose the split that suits the game.
Can I name the teams?
Yes. Tap Team 1, Team 2 and so on and type your own names. They stay when you shuffle again, and appear when you copy or print the teams.
Is it free? Do the names leave my phone?
It’s free and needs no account. The teams are made in your browser and the names are not sent anywhere; this browser keeps your list for next time.
