The Details (thedetails.page) lets hosts make a website for an event and collect replies from their guests. This page says what we keep, why, and how to have it removed. Questions go to support@thedetails.page.
What hosts give us
Your account: your name and email address, from Google if you sign in with Google, or the address you ask a sign-in link for.
Your sites: your answers to our questions, everything you write or change in the editor, the photos you upload, and earlier versions of your site.
Your guest list: the names, email addresses and other details you add or import.
Payments: if you buy a site pass, Stripe takes the payment. We keep a record of what you paid for, never your card details.
What guests give us
A guest’s name, who is coming, their answers to the host’s questions (such as a meal choice or allergies) and, if they want a copy of their reply, an email address. Only the host of that event sees them. We use them only to run that event’s site.
How we use it
To run the sites and the guest lists, and to send the emails you ask for: sign-in links, invitations, copies of replies and notices of new replies.
We keep a record of changes to guest lists and replies, so a mistake can be traced and undone, and a log of the emails we send (without the addresses) to keep sending limits.
What we don’t do
We don’t sell your data or your guests’ data, share it for marketing, or show ads on event sites. Event sites are kept out of search engines.
Who handles it for us
Cloudflare runs the site, stores the data and photos, and sends our email. Google handles sign-in if you choose it. Stripe handles payments if you subscribe. Google Analytics counts visits to our own pages (see below).
Cookies and your browser
A cookie keeps hosts signed in. On a password-protected site, a cookie remembers for 30 days that this browser has the password. The browser also keeps a host’s unfinished answers and a guest’s reply, so either can come back to them.
On our own pages (the home page, sign-up, the app for hosts, and the help, terms and privacy pages) we use Google Analytics to count visits and see where visitors come from. It sets cookies, and Google receives the page address, your browser and device type and your IP address. We turn off its advertising features. Event sites and guests’ pages never load it, and we use no advertising cookies anywhere.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
Hosts can delete all guest data of a site, or the whole site, at any time. Deleting a site removes its pages, guest list, replies, history and photos. Older versions of a site are deleted after 30 days, except the most recent ones, and the email log is deleted after 30 days.
Every email we send a guest has a link that stops further emails about that event. To see, correct or delete your data, or a reply you sent, write to support@thedetails.page or ask the event’s host.
Changes
When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
