Wedding website FAQ

The questions guests ask before a wedding, with answers ready to copy onto your website. Change the parts in [brackets] and leave out what doesn’t apply.

Replies and guests

When do we need to reply by?

Please reply by [May 1] so we can give the caterer final numbers. If we haven’t heard from you by then, we’ll assume you can’t make it.

Can I bring a plus-one?

We’ve kept our guest list to [family and close friends]. Your invitation names everyone we’re able to host; if it says “and guest”, you’re welcome to bring someone.

Are kids welcome?

We love your little ones, but our wedding will be adults only, apart from [our nieces and nephews in the wedding party]. We hope this gives you a night off!

I can’t come. What should I do?

Please still reply, so we know. We’ll miss you, and we’ll share photos here afterwards.

Can I change my reply?

Yes, until [May 1]. Open your personal link again and change it, or tell us directly.

The day

What should I wear?

The dress code is [cocktail attire]: suits or a jacket, dresses or dressy separates. The ceremony is [outdoors on grass], so leave the stilettos at home.

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive by [3:30 PM]. The ceremony starts at [4 PM] sharp, and the doors close when it begins.

Is the ceremony indoors or outdoors?

The ceremony is [outside in the garden] and the reception is [inside the hall]. If it rains, everything moves [indoors].

Can I take photos during the ceremony?

We’re having an unplugged ceremony: please keep phones away until we’ve walked back down the aisle. Our photographer has it covered, and we’ll share the photos here. At the reception, snap away!

Will there be food for dietary needs?

Yes. Tell us any allergies or dietary needs when you reply and we’ll make sure the caterer has something for you.

Is there an open bar?

Yes, [beer, wine and soft drinks] are on us all night.

Travel and stay

Where should I stay?

We’ve reserved rooms at [the Harbour Hotel] at a discounted rate. Book by [April 1] with the code [HALEORTIZ]. It’s [10 minutes] from the venue.

Is there parking at the venue?

[Free parking] is available on site. If you’re planning to drink, please use a taxi or the shuttle.

Will there be transport between the hotel and the venue?

A shuttle leaves [the Harbour Hotel] at [3 PM] and returns at [10 PM and 11:30 PM].

What’s the nearest airport?

[Charleston International (CHS)], about [25 minutes] from the venue by car.

Is the venue accessible?

[The venue is step-free throughout, with an accessible restroom.] If you need anything to make the day easier, tell us when you reply.

Gifts

Where are you registered?

Your presence is the best present. If you’d like to give something, our registry is at [link]. Please bring nothing to the wedding itself; we’d rather not carry it home.

Do you have a honeymoon fund?

We do! We’re saving for [two weeks in Japan], and any contribution towards it would mean the world.

What else goes on the website

Your names and the date, a short note, the schedule with each venue and a map link, travel and places to stay, the questions above, the registry, and the reply form. For the wording on the printed card, see wedding invitation wording; for the order of the day, the wedding day timeline.

About the FAQ

What should a wedding website FAQ include?

The questions guests would otherwise text you: the reply-by date, plus-ones, whether children are invited, the dress code, what time to arrive, parking and transport, where to stay, dietary needs and the registry. Answer each in two or three sentences.

How many questions should the FAQ have?

Eight to twelve is plenty. Guests skim, so leave out what is already on the invitation or the schedule, and add a question when two people have asked you the same thing.

How do I say no plus-ones or no kids on the website?

Briefly and warmly, once, in the FAQ: say who is invited (“your invitation names everyone we’re able to host”) rather than who isn’t, and give a reason if you have one, such as the size of the venue. Then make the reply form match, so guests can’t add people who aren’t invited.

Where should the FAQ go on a wedding website?

After the schedule and the travel notes, before the registry. Many guests come only to check one thing, so a clear heading such as “Questions” and short answers help more than position.

What else goes on a wedding website?

Your names and the date, a short note or your story, the schedule with each venue and a map, travel and places to stay, the FAQ, the registry, and the reply form. Photos are optional. Keep private details, such as your home address, off it.

Can I use these answers on any wedding website?

Yes, copy them anywhere and change the parts in brackets. On The Details, a new wedding website starts with a Questions section already holding your dress code, plus-ones and reply date, and you add the rest.
