- Three rounds
- Quarter-finals (4 games), semi-finals (2) and the final: 7 games in all. No byes, since 8 fills the bracket exactly.
- Seeding
- 1 v 8, 4 v 5, 2 v 7 and 3 v 6 in the quarter-finals. The top two seeds sit in opposite halves, so they can only meet in the final.
- Good for
- Fantasy football and basketball playoffs, the end of a rec league season, a cornhole or pickleball day, or a classroom tournament.

Three: the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final. A double elimination bracket has three winners rounds, four losers rounds and the grand final.
What is the seeding for an 8 team bracket?
1 v 8, 4 v 5, 2 v 7 and 3 v 6. The winners of 1 v 8 and 4 v 5 meet in one semi-final, and the winners of 2 v 7 and 3 v 6 in the other.
How long does an 8 team tournament take?
With four courts or fields, three rounds of play: every quarter-final at once, then the semi-finals, then the final. With one court the seven games are played one after another.
